Robbins arrived a couple weeks ago and now we are seeing Mountain Blue birds as we approach the end of March which can only mean that Skwala’s are here!
Even with the dramatic swings in our weather and bumping river flows the fishing has been steadily improving with good windows in the afternoon for the dry fly bite. Throughout the system Skwala patterns are taking fish, bullet head patterns, chubbies, Plan B’s, and many of our hand tied bugs are consistent producers. Staring with a nymph trailing a high floating bug in the morning but when you see that occasional free riser the bite is on. Don’t overlook the small bug as often a nemoura pattern in a 14 will be a good option to take several fish each day. We are finding fish in the predictable places, slow holding water, inside seams and shelves and tail outs. Flows bumped up in the last two days and there are hazards in the river so caution while floating or wading is warranted. Our weather outlook is great for the rest of the week and we expect the fishing to be excellent. This time of year is busy on the river and at the access sites so stay safe and courteous , it should be a great fishing week.
